Authentic Eden: Redefining Space and Connection

A Tranquil Residence Designed by Wei Tong Chen

Authentic Eden stands out from other residential designs due to its unique approach to space optimization. The villa, situated at the back of a community with subpar public areas, presented a challenge for the designer. By refurbishing the entrance and introducing large French windows, Chen successfully improved the quality of life for the family.

The layout of the residence underwent a significant transformation. Walls separating the kitchen, dining room, and living room were removed, allowing for multi-dimensional interactions between family members. This alteration created a better flow and opened up new possibilities for connection and engagement.

The design of Authentic Eden embraces rustic charm, with a color palette dominated by gray and white tones that exude warmth and order. The utilization of French windows establishes a seamless connection between the interior and the surrounding space. The installation art and lush lawn in the yard provide physical and spiritual relaxation, creating a soothing melody for the soul.

Authentic Eden spans approximately 198 square meters and features three bedrooms, two living rooms, and a study. The renovation focused on enhancing the public areas, which had previously inconvenienced the family. By renovating the garage and reconfiguring the layout, Chen created a more inviting entryway that eliminated any encumbrances.

The challenges faced during the design process included a constrained construction site, a tight budget, and the immutability of the existing structure and public areas. However, the design team overcame these obstacles by incorporating elements such as a lawn, concrete, and transforming the garage into the new entrance. The removal of walls seamlessly connected the interior with the yard, fostering a sense of openness and alleviating spatial constraints.

Authentic Eden not only improved the relationships within the neighborhood but also provided the children with more room to grow and explore. The toilet, previously located under the staircase, was transformed into a storage area, reducing stress and enhancing functionality.

Completed in 2019, Authentic Eden is a testament to the power of thoughtful design. Through thorough research and analysis, Wei Tong Chen maximized the potential for improvement in public quality and indoor environments. The project received the prestigious Bronze A' Design Award in 2020, recognizing its outstanding creativity and ingenious design that authentically enhances the experience and resourcefulness of the space.
